Well, I'm not sure exactly what made me do it, but on Saturday, September 5, 1998, I bought my very first brand new car (I actually got it from the dealer on Thursday, the 10th). I still like my Bug and Century, but I had gotten in the mood for something different. I'd been reading a lot on the Camaro/Firebird, about their performance. I felt that they were really a lot of car for the money. I'm not much into Hondas or Toyotas or Mazdas or whatever, so that didn't leave too much else. I considered cars like the Dodge Avenger, Ford Mustang, Pontiac Grand Prix, Oldsmobile Intrigue, the supercharged Buick Regal, even the new VW Beetle. But in the end, I decided only an F-body (Camaro/Firebird) was really going to make me happy. It took me a while to decide which one I liked better, but I like the looks of the Camaro a little better than the Firebird.
Of course, I couldn't go for the "base" Camaro; I opted for the 5.7 Liter, 305 horsepower Z-28. My car is Arctic White with t-top roof and factory chrome wheels, and has a 6-speed manual transmission. It is truly a blast to drive. I average around 25mpg around town, and on road trips, I get 33+ MPG.
